Report: another candidate for microsoft ceo position

The microsoft board of directors is paying mollenkopf among the contenders to succeed outgoing chief executive steve ballmer, bloomberg wrote, citing informed people. Qualcomm is a leading manufacturer of communication chips for mobile devices. 44-year-old mollenkopf is responsible for day-to-day operations there. Microsoft did not comment on the reports of possible candidates so far.

Ballmer had announced in august that he intended to retire from the microsoft helm within twelve months. Microsoft wants to select a successor as soon as possible this year, according to previous media reports. For a long time, ford boss alan mulally was seen as a promising candidate, but the latest rumor was that he wanted to stay with the car company until the end of 2014.

Other candidates include former nokia chief stephen elop, who is returning to the windows group after taking over the fins’ cell phone business, and microsoft’s cloud chief satya nadella. In the meantime, there was also talk of several other candidates such as ex-skype boss tony bates.
